New Defensive Structures are unlocked by upgrading the Outpost structure in your base. After upgrading the Outpost, you'll find a new selection of structures available for purchase with Gold by going through Build > Purchase.

Please note that there's a limit to the number of structure types that can be placed at once in your Base Defense section. These limits are displayed in Build Mode on the right side of the screen, below Architects information.
